The PICU at Tisch Hospital

PICU Tisch HospitalThe Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Tisch is currently staffed by seven full-time pediatric critical care specialists who actively collaborate with surgical subspecialties including: general pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery.  Together with our medical subspecialists, we specialize in the complex, multi-dimensional medical care of children.  These areas often include: pediatric neurology and epilepsy, pulmonology, hematology/oncology, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology, rheumatology among others.

The PICU at Tisch provides 24-hour coverage by pediatric residents who are supervised by the Pediatric Critical Care Attending on duty.  Rotating Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellows are also involved in the care of patients in the PICU.

Registered nurses with special training and interest in critical care work in the PICU.  Respiratory therapists are present 24 hours a day to assist the pediatric critical care team in mechanical ventilation and other aspects of respiratory care.  Supporting staff also include pediatric pharmacists, social workers, child life specialists, nutritionists, and physical/occupational therapists.
