Dr. Gold-von Simson's research interests include bringing Kinetin (6-furfurylaminopurine) to FD patients as a therapeutic agent; identifying markers of genetic expression, and splicing efficiency in both heterozygotes and homozygotes of the IVS20+6T>C FD mutation; in addition to the development and validation of a functional severity scale, as well as association with, WT IKBKAP mRNA levels in affected FD patients.
The Center is equipped to perform specialized quantitative measurements of sensory and autonomic function including:
- autonomic tests such as tilt testing, heart rate variability, baroreflex measurement, sympathetic skin reflex, and sweat tests
- sensory tests such as determination of warm and cold temperature thresholds, pain sensation, and vibration thresholds
In addition, the Center is equipped to perform histamine tests and Schirmer tear flow tests.
