NYU's Physician Scientist Training Program grant was awarded to Dr. Lighter for her proposal to study Regulatory T-cells (Tregs) in children infected with Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (M. tb).

Children less than 2 years of age infected with M. tb are much more susceptible to progression of TB disease than older children and adults. Dr. Lighter's research will investigate whether this is secondary to the strong influence Tregs play on infections in the very young.
