Bellevue lays claim to being the oldest hospital now existing in the United States. Currently, it is the flagship hospital of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and one of the more respected municipal hospitals in the country.
Bellevue has a history of excellence in pediatric care dating
back to 1874 when Dr. Abraham Jacobi, Professor of Diseases

Today, Bellevue has a total of 62 in-patient beds for children, which include the general in-patient service, and the pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. Approximately 2,200 infants are delivered and admitted to its Low Risk (Level I) nursery each year.
Bellevue is home to a large Pediatric Resource Center which provides comprehensive longitudinal health care in a brand-new, comfortable, friendly ambulatory setting to a large population of children in multiproblem families. The busy Pediatric Emergency Service, housed in a state-of-the-art 3,500 square foot dedicated clinical facility, cares for approximately 23,000 acutely ill or injured children, adolescents and young adults per year.

This 726-bed institution serves as a focus for a diverse spectrum of regional patient care and is a highly regarded tertiary care center. In pediatrics, it is a world-reowned center for the care of children with neurosurgical, cardiovascular, maxillofacial, and genetic disorders and provides a wealth of experiences for house staff.
Tisch Hospital has 55 pediatric medical and surgical beds, plus intensive care units for pediatric and neonatal patients. The fully computerized Hospital Information System allows residents easy access to medical, nursing, and laboratory data on all patients.

The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine was founded in 1948 by Dr. Howard A. Rusk, widely known as "the father of rehabilitation medicine" for his revolutionary work in the field. Dr. Rusk's philosophy of care emphasized treating the entire person - an individual with emotional, psychological, and social needs - not just the illness or disability, an approach that still guides the Institute today.
With 174 beds, Rusk is the one of world's largest university centers for treatment and training of disabled adults and children, as well as for research in rehabilitation medicine. U.S. News & World Report has named the Rusk the top rehabilitation facility in New York State for 16 consecutive years. Rusk serves approximately 2,500 inpatients and 55,000 outpatients each year.

NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, the musculoskeletal center of excellence at NYU Medical Center, is a 190-bed facility located at 17th Street and Second Avenue in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. First incorporated in 1905 and relocated to its present site in 1979, NYUHJD specializes in orthopaedic surgery, rheumatology and molecular medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and neurology.

The Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine opened its doors in October 1993, with its first recruits joining the institute during 1994. The institute, encompassing 60,000 square feet of laboratory space divided over four floors, focuses boldly on basic research but provides both core facilities and interaction between the clinical disciplines and the activities in basic science at the New York University Medical Center.
With a strong awareness that most medical breakthroughs originate in basic research, the medical center has allocated considerable resources in developing a state-of-the-art, modern, interdisciplinary research unit right in the center of the medical school environment.
